Watercolour Dandelion

This dandelion tutorial is perfect for beginners looking for creative inspiration for watercolour painting. Our easy step-by-step guides are a great way to learn new techniques or brush up on old ones.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Watercolours, (blue, green, yellow, black)
  • Watercolour paper
  • Watercolour brushes
  • Clean water
  • Paint Palette

STEP 1

Get your palette ready with your colours. Mix up a very watery green start painting from the bottom corners. Now mix a yellow green wash and a blue green wash and fill the paper allowing the washes to blend. Leave a blank circle in the centre – you’ll need this for the next step.

STEP 2

Paint a black line down the paper from the bottom edge of the blank circle you left in the previous step. Next fill in your dandelion head by painting black lines from the centre of the circle like the spokes on a bike wheel.

STEP 3

Finish with some dashes painted on the ends of the lines.

Your first watercolour dandelion is finished!

The very opaque mix of green paint you used in Step 1 is called a wash and its something you will use again and again as it's the foundation of many watercolour paintings.
